Aquatic Veil III is like looking under the lake at St James’s. The climate is still the same: indigo, sky blue, soft grey; plants that live between silt and glare. The drawing, this time, is more like a crossing of blades.

A pale wash occupies the top, cloudy, frayed—the underside of the surface, or light thickened by water. Through it, and through the rest of the field, stems travel at different speeds: one long diagonal, thinner lines that meet and part, a cluster of parallel strokes at the left that read as a single leaf seen on its edge, ribbed, almost folded. In the lower corner a denser plane of blue-grey sits like a stone, a shadow, the bed asserting itself. A broader, paler diagonal rises beside it, a current or a leaf too large to finish on the page.

Four, in the set, is the moment the underwater world becomes spatial rather than emblematic. Not a pair of ovals, not a general climate: a specific tangle of directions. The park above remains a designed enclosure. Down here the only structure is growth and drift. Interconnection is the X of two stems. Resilience is the leaf that keeps its ribs while the wash wants to dissolve. The unseen beauty is still unseen—only a veil of pigment, and the paper acting as water.
